MISMO Engineering Guidelines (MEGs) are published to assist the workgroups in creating their specifications and to assist developers of Extensible Markup Language (XML) for MISMO to achieve consistent and technically appropriate XML that meets the needs of the user community. The Guidelines shall be adhered to during the development process without any deviation. Design Guidelines describe best practices and should be followed unless there is a unique compelling business or technical reason for using an alternate solution.

MISMO has developed a series of Version 3 Engineering Guidelines to guide the process and production of Version 3.x specifications and artifacts. As the Version 3.x series of specifications is constantly evolving, creating MEGs to address design concepts and explain rules and restrictions applied to the MISMO specifications is an ongoing process. Be sure to check back periodically for updates and newer versions

Implementation Guidelines
Individual residential MISMO Workgroups provide implementation guidance for using specific MISMO data standards. In addition, a generic MISMO Implementation Guide has been created that provides information and insights on the entire residential transaction set.

Information Security Guidelines
The mission of the MISMO Information Security Workgroup (ISWG) is to support the information security concerns of other MISMO workgroups, provide industry security related recommendations, and general educational material on the topic of security. In line with this mission, the ISWG has publish several pieces of collateral aimed at helping the real estate finance industry deal with information security.
