The FIPS Code API DWG will create a MISMO standards-based application programming interface (API) specification that returns loan limits based on home address.

MISMO is building next-generation technologies for the industry. As part of its efforts to build APIs and data exchanges using technologies such as JSON, the new MISMO workgroup will build on recent JSON API Toolkit efforts to focus on a Federal Information Processing Standards code (FIPS) API for use in determining program loan limits. The API will allow a lender to quickly determine, for a given property address, if the loan exceeds the FIPS code limits, which is especially useful for specific programs such as "Home Ready." The API also will include the ability to look up the FIPS code based on address zip code.

This collaborative effort will create a MISMO standards-based API from the JSON API Toolkit efforts.  The derived OpenAPI specification shall use the subject property address to obtain the FIPS code and get the loan limit by the use of JSON.  These efforts will be guided by MEG 045. The goals include establishing the necessary certainty of a standard methodology to use the MISMO API Toolkit to ensure the data exchange is consistent between parties.  Implementation shall be subject to the MISMO disclaimers and intellectual property.

In addition, we will be exploring the use of GitHub for collaborative change tracking amongst industry participants.  Working on documenting the process of creating an API specification from the MISMO API Tool kit. The result of this effort shall be an implementation guide and test examples to help the industry
