Highlight Your Expertise in Industry Standards as a Certified MISMO Standards Professional (CMSP®)

The CMSP® is a point-based program. Candidates must earn at least 100 points to sit for the exam required to obtain a certification and 25 points (every 2 years) to maintain their certification.  See information on the calculation of point, below.

Step 1: Acquire 100 CMSP Points and Submit your Application.

  • Candidates must acquire 100 CMSP Points in order to sit for the CMSP Exam. A minimum of 25 Participation points must be earned.  
  • Participation points: The entire 100-point total may be earned with Participation points. If Candidates combine Education points with Participation points to get to the 100-point total, they must have a minimum of 25 Participation points. 
  • Candidates must obtain a reference from a member of the MISMO Leadership Team (Standards Governance Committee Member, Council of Chairs Member, Committee Chair, Board Member) in order to be eligible to take the CMSP® Certification Exam. 
  • When you have acquired 100 CMSP points and a Reference Form signed by a member of the MISMO Leadership Team, you can submit your application at: CMSP Application 

Candidates may earn the following Participation points:

  • 10 points for serving in a leadership position as Board member, Committee/Council/Forum Chair, Workgroup Chair, or Vice Chair  
  • 5 points for serving as a workgroup representative to Information Management (IM), Architecture Workgroup, or the Education Council 
  • 4 points for MISMO Summit attendance
  • 2 points for serving on Summit presentation panel 
  • 2 points for serving on an industry panel/presentation representing MISMO topics (e.g. ALTA, PRIA, MBA or otherwise)  
  • 3 points per year for Workgroup attendance (attending 66% of meetings) / 1 point per year for attending 33% of meetings
  • 5 points for serving as a MISMO Boot Camp instructor
  • 3 points for developing a MISMO Webinar
  • 3 points for authoring a published MISMO-related industry article

Education Points: Candidates may earn up to 75 education points and combine this with the required minimum of 25 Participation to get to the 100-point total.

Step 2: Enroll in the Program.

  • A CMSP program enrollment fee of $300 for MISMO Members ($500 for Non-Members) will apply. For AMSP® holders, the enrollment fee is $200 for MISMO Members ($400 for Non-Members). AMSPs interested in becoming a CMSP should contact [email protected] to obtain promo code for discounted enrollment.  
  • Complete the CMSP Program Registration to get enrolled. 

Step 3: Take the Exam.

  • Candidates must Register for the CMSP Certification Exam. An Exam Fee of $200 for MISMO Members ($400 for Non-Members) will apply. 
  • Complete the exam with a 75% or higher score to earn a passing grade. 
  • Candidates who fail the exam will be given 10 days to take and pass a second exam. Should the candidate fail the second exam, the candidate must wait six months before taking a subsequent re-test. A CMSP re-test fee of $100 for MISMO Members ($300 for Non-Members) will apply for each subsequent attempt after the six-month waiting period. Step 5: Maintain your Certification.

  • CMSPs must earn 25 total points every two years with a minimum of 15 participation points in order to maintain their CMSP certification. 
  • Participants must Register to Renew their Certification. If a renewal is not completed within one year of the expiration of the certification, the participant must start the CMSP process over from the beginning (including re-taking the exam) in order to renew their certification. 
  • Provide documentation. A Certificate Maintenance Fee of $100 for MISMO Members ($200 for Non-Members) will apply. 
  • Candidates must complete and submit a CMSP Renewal Candidate Form documenting a minimum of 25 points with a minimum of 15 participation points.
