What is the Reverse Mortgage Development Workgroup?
The Reverse Mortgage DWG is MISMO's dedicated initiative to modernize and mainstream reverse mortgage lending through data standardization and industry collaboration. As demographic trends and market conditions drive renewed interest in reverse mortgage products, the DWG is leading the charge to ensure these offerings are supported by robust, interoperable standards that benefit all stakeholders-from lenders and servicers to technology providers and regulators.
Mission
The DWG's mission is to enhance the MISMO Reference Model and associated work products to provide comprehensive support for reverse mortgage transactions. This includes defining data standards, identifying integration gaps, and aligning reverse mortgage workflows with broader mortgage industry practices.

Recent Developments
- Standardization Milestone Achieved: The DWG successfully completed and published the landmark reverse mortgage data on May 28, 2025, as part of MISMO Version 3.6.1 Reference Model standard. This standard enables seamless integration of reverse mortgage products into existing lending platforms, addressing long-standing challenges around data portability and system compatibility.
- Industry Engagement: The DWG has seen growing participation from top lenders, technology vendors, and secondary market players. Recent meetings have focused on aligning with MISMO's broader data governance principles and ensuring that reverse mortgage standards are interoperable with forward mortgage systems.
- Technology Integration: The group is actively working to ensure that MISMO standards can be leveraged to streamline integrations across LOS and CRM systems, supporting the unique workflows of reverse mortgage lending.

How to Join
Anyone may participate in a MISMO development workgroup or community of practice regardless of membership status. Voting members of Information Management and Architecture Workgroup are elected as per governance procedures. Membership in MISMO is open to anyone - mortgage lenders, banks, credit unions, servicers, vendors, government agencies and more. MISMO members receive a voice, and vote, in creating and enhancing industry standards used by the entire industry. Learn more here.
