MISMO Seeks Comment on Updated MEGs (MISMO Engineering Guidelines)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June XX, 2025) – MISMO®, the real estate finance industry's standards organization, today announced that it is seeking member comment on several updated MISMO Engineering Guidelines (MEGs). The 30-day member comment period runs through August 13th, 2025.
“MISMO maintains a series of guidelines to govern the development of MISMO standards and collateral work products. MEGs ensure that MISMO work products adhere to all applicable technology standards, are produced in a consistent fashion, and meet the needs of the mortgage industry,” said MISMO Acting President, Rick Hill.
The MEG updates include:
- MEG 0002: XML 1.0 Profile
- Removed the summary table and redundant content
- Improved rationale, grammar, and formatting
- MEG 0004: Schema Language Recommendations
- Updated terminology related to MEG requirements
- Changed the MEG title from "Schema Language Recommendation" to better reflect its content
- MEG 0005: Unicode and Internationalization
- Updated formatting
- Replaced outdated terms and conditions with the current disclaimer, licensing, and copyright
- Improved terminology and added more detailed explanations
- Replaced the “assumptions” section with document status
- MEG 0007: Class Words and Definition Guidelines
- Added templates for definitions and improved formatting
- Clarified content of Class Word “Type”
- Combined content from MEG 0040 for a more streamlined approach
- Changed the MEG title from “Class Words” to better reflect its content
- Note: MEG 0040 (Data Point and Container Definition Guidelines) will be deprecated as its content is now part of MEG 0007
- MEG 0025: Extending a Standard MISMO XML Schema
- Updated section 25.8 with additional guidance for implementing enumerated values.
The public comment period allows at least 30 days’ notice prior to final release to review and disclose any applicable Patent Rights (as defined by MISMO's 2018 Intellectual Property Rights Policy).
MISMO requests that any organization that may have any patent or patent applications, or other intellectual property rights that might be infringed upon by an organization that uses or is compliant with these proposed MISMO products to disclose them at this time in writing.
