Brittney Prophete (202) 557-2799WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 9, 2025) – MISMO®, the
real estate finance industry's standards organization, today announced a
call for industry professionals to participate in the launch of a new
initiative to develop a standard Commitment File.
“The
Commitment File is essential to the selling of loans, yet today it is
handled differently across the market. Establishing a standard will
streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and speed the exchange of
information between lenders and capital markets participants,” said
Rusty Emory, CSMP, VP of Investor Delivery at PrimeLending. “MISMO
invites the industry to come together to create a solution that will
drive real modernization in the post-closing space.”
The
Commitment File is a critical component in the post-closing phase of
the mortgage life cycle, containing key information that is used in the
selling of the loan and master servicing rights by the originating
lender. The structure and transmission of this file vary widely across
the industry despite its importance, which leads to inefficiencies,
delays, and data quality challenges.
A
standard Commitment File will reduce manual work and reformatting,
improve data accuracy, and accelerate the exchange of information
between lenders and capital markets participants.
The
kickoff meeting will take place at the MISMO Winter Summit on
Wednesday, January 14th from 9:00am-10:20am ET in the Secondary
Community of Practice. Anyone is welcome to join the Secondary Community of Practice on the third Tuesday of each month from 3-4 pm ET to work towards this goal.
This
effort will benefit a wide range of industry participants, including
mortgage originators and investors involved in inventory delivery,
secondary, and capital markets, as well as point-of-sale solution
providers such as product and pricing analysts and integration
specialists. Individuals interested in participating in this group who
are already MISMO Members may join the Secondary Community of Practice
collaboration site on MISMO Connect. Those who are not members of MISMO
and would like to participate should email [email protected].
