Brittney Prophete (202) 557-2799WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 5. 2026) – MISMO®, the
real estate finance industry's standards organization, today announced
that the new Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Documents Data Mapping
for VA Form 26-1820 has reached “Candidate Recommendation” status. This
milestone recognizes that the standard has been thoroughly reviewed by a
broad range of industry participants and is available for
implementation across the mortgage industry.
This
effort translates VA Form 26-1820 into a standardized XML dataset
aligned with supporting improved data integrity, automation, and
interoperability while reducing manual entry. VA LGY, Lenders, LOS
Vendors, and Document Vendors will benefit from the new form.
“The
VA Documents Data Mapping is a great example of industry collaboration
in action,” said MISMO President Brian Vieaux. “Thanks to the dedicated
efforts of the VA Documents to Data Workgroup, stakeholders now have a
standardized, machine-readable format that improves data accuracy,
streamlines reporting, and supports broader modernization goals.”
The VA Documents to Data Development Workgroup (DWG),
led by Jose Ferrer, VA, Co-Chair, and Nick Fisseler, VA, Co-Chair, was
established in 2023 to support the VA’s Loan Guaranty Program
transformation, mapping addresses VA Form 26-1820, Report and
Certification of Loan Disbursement, which lenders submit to report loans
for VA guaranty at closing. This effort aligns directly with the VA
Loan Guaranty Program’s ongoing modernization initiatives.
The DWG’s three‑phase initiative is nearing completion:
- Phase I: VA Form 26‑1820 mapping complete; moving to 30‑day public comment.
- Phase II: VA Forms 26‑1880 & 26‑1817 mapping submitted for review.
- Phase III: VA Form 26‑1805 mapping in final preparation for submission.
Upon completion of all three phases, the workgroup will be integrated into MISMO’s Originations Community of Practice.
Candidate
Recommendation status reflects industry consensus and signals readiness
for implementation. Industry participants are encouraged to begin
adopting the standard and provide feedback to the VA Documents to Data
DWG as part of MISMO’s ongoing standards governance process.
